This will be my last entry as early tomorrow morning we begin the journey home...Last night we went back to Fishermans Village on the north coast and early evening found ourselves a seat overlooking the ocean in The Crows Nest Bar which had half price happy hour from 4 to 11pm!!!(thats one long hour!) Needless to say we took full advantage, Nik had white wine (passable but got better with subsequent glasses) whilst i had house vodka and coke...a dangerous mix and so it proved as we returned to The Shack for another fantastic meal...salmon carpaccio and oysters to start followed by medium rare fillet each...more drinks...then Nik had irish coffee....we were more than a bit squiffy by the time we went for our final Thai foot massages and then a taxi home...fell asleep watching the football...did Newcastle win?
We have had a fantastic holiday and i hope the blog has informed and amused....see you back in the UK..

Finding Nemo 2
What a fantastic morning fishing i have just had....began at 8am and soon caught a 40lb arapimah and a 15lb pacu (a relative of the piranah) , then a 50lb mekong catfish before i hooked and landed the 100lb plus arapimah pictured below. It was a truly magnificent and beautiful fish with red irridescent scales..a day never to forget.....
Not another fishing video?

Good things come......
We were approached by one of the staff late yesterday and asked if we would mind having a villa upgrade for the last few days of our holiday? would we mind?...what do you think?
So we packed up our stuff after breakfast and later were installed into what can only be described as a medium sized house high up overlooking the sea. It has a fab terrace with sundeck, bath, and dining area and inside a huge bedroom, bathroom and seating area. I dont think Nik will be leaving here for the next 3 days!
I am going back to Top Cats tomorrow morning, getting up at 6.15 am and fishing until 2pm...will let you know on next blog how i get on.......

An Unsatisfactory Evening....
Since we arrived here Nik has expressed a desire to source some Thai cotton batik and sarong fabric for use in making dog blankets or something back home. To this end we managed to get the address of one of only 2 shops on the island which supply this and set out by taxi to the town of Chae Weng to find and purchase said items. Due to road works we were dropped off close (and i use the word advisedly ) to said shop and then spent the next 45 minutes walking and retracing our steps through smelly dog infested side streets to no avail...Nik was severely pissed off and so was i. So we decided to go for food and had been recommended a posh Thai eatery called Spirit House which very busy, short of staff, they didnt know how to make a vodka martini (shaken not stirred) ,was full of children despite the hour and to cap it all this family with kids changed the babies nappy at the table!!! Which was a shame because the food was excellent...so we ordered a taxi home and we had 20 mins to wait for it so entered a bar with live music...i use the term loosley because this 4 piece band could not play their instuments and could not sing either...they murdered Californication by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and we left quickly before slitting our wrists!

JAPANESE OLYMPIC KAYAK TEAM TRAINING PROBLEMS
Japanese preparations for the kayak gold medal at this summers olympics in the UK were hampered badly at their winter training in Koh Samui, Thailand ,today. It appears that their 2 competitors were in need of some serious practice as they seemed to have little idea how to paddle. launch their craft or steer it.
Refuting claims that their chances of a gold medal were slim, team manager Mr Kato told us "Its early days yet and once they can overcome their fear of water im sure we will be fine"
Mr Kato also refuted claims that the pair (known only to us as Ting and Tong) had won a place each on the Olympic team when they opened a fortune cookie in a branch of "YO SUSHI" in the red light district of downtown Bangkok last week.

One of the many nice things where we are is the abundance of butterflies..there are many different sorts which flutter here and there but, as Nik says they rarely pitch on any flowers so i snapped the one below this morning. We have seen some huge fast flying irridescent blue ones which i think are called morphos which,if my memory serves me were so prized in the 1800's that convicts imprizoned out here were made to catch them and they were then sold back to the UK. and the USA.
I have to say that Nik has been running in the gym the last 3 days which i admire greatly......my exercise has only been fighting big fish or playing tennis......speaking of which Tong my Japanese friend had his rematch this evening and we had a really good game, both playing well. I see that Andy Murray beat a Japanese player today and i am pleased to say i was also triamphant 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in an hour and a half of sweat soaked mayhem.
We now are about to begin round 3 of the Samui scrabble championship and being 2-0 down in a best of 5 tournament i need a win.....

A Very Fishy Tale..
Before i get onto the important stuff Nik has asked me to do a short piece on Chinese New Year which began yesterday and i forgot to say we saw a lion (not dragon as i had thought) dance last night to celebrate it..and very nice it was too.
Chinese new year starts with the new moon on the first day of the new year and ends in the full moon 15 days later when there is a lantern display.
This is the year of the dragon...to me it always seems to be either the year of the dragon, rat or pig or are there others? I think they should go through the alphabet to add variety eg. A....the year of the anteater. B...the year of the badger C..the year of the centipede etc etc
Now this afternoon i set off alone in a taxi to go to Top Cats Fishery which is a fresh water lake in the SW of the island with some fish in it...and you know i would fish in a puddle given the chance!
I dont want to bore you with too many details but i caught 2 mekong catfish of 35 and 60lb and a rather beautiful siamese carp of 40lb. The big cat took 15mins to land. I also hooked and lost 3 giant aripaimah which were well over 80lb so i had a rather jolly good time......

The danger of going commando.....
Following my tennis game and having showered we decided to eat locally again and as it was very hot and humid i decided to do without underwear. On reaching our destination and as my body was beginning to seize up we decided to have another massage each. We avoided Charlie Chaplins massage parlour in favour of another establishment which offered a total body massage with aloe vera (one hour £8) which seemed great...what happened then went a bit like this.....
Thai girl "sawadee ka mister....you take your shorts off please....what..you not wearing any underwear...whoaaa...SEXY MAN....ha ha!"
Whilst Nik disrobed to underwear next to me this girl insisted i got bollock naked or no massage could take place so i complied...
"OHH YOU VERY SEXY MAN MISTER!!" she kept saying as she slapped aloe vera gel around my groin area and massaged the area vigourously (though i must say she never touched the crown jewels) and it took great willpower not to respond in a masculine way to her efforts. Nik was laughing the whole time in the bed next to me . My girl either wanted a big tip or was in need of lazer eye surgery
"you 45 years mister? Ohh....chest hair...SEXY SEXY!!"
One hour later my ordeal was over...a great massage actually and a lot of fun.
After that we had meal, a few beers then bed.
Next day (mon) we spent the morning by the pool and at 4pm there was a wedding on the beach at the resort...the family was from New Zealand but it was far too hot in the dress i am sure.
At 6pm at beach bar was an hours free cocktails so we were there and consuming vodka and gin like it was going out of fashion and at 7.45 and rather unsteady got a taxi to a place called Fishermans Village which is a lovely seaside area with nice shops, eateries, etc etc and very lively. We ate at a place called The Shack which was recommended and it was buzzing. For the first time this holiday i did not eat local food as they speciaslised in steaks and flew in chilled australian prime meat....we both had medium rare fillet.....i dont think we have ever had it better!!
On way back to get taxi we saw one of those places where the fish clean and get hard skin off your feet so we had a go each. What a strange and slightly uncomfortable event....the fish looked like UK loach with a sucker rather than teeth..they were called gassa rura fish i think...dont think will be doing that again.

Who needs the tennis in Australia?.....
Saturday was quiet affair and not much to report....we played scrabble in the evening whilst watching the football live. At one stage Newcastle were winning and so was i at scrabble but when the Toons defence started to resemble a cullunder my concentration went at the board game ( a good excuse methinks) and Nik beat me AGAIN to go 2-0 up....i know it is really hard to believe!!
Today was spent on the beach but i was pent up with excitement as i had arranged a tennis match with a Japanese guest who i had never met a 5pm. So as Nik went running at the gym (she has been 4 times i think) i made my way to the Centre Court....as John McEnroe described afterwards it was EPIC........
"As the 2 players met Clark was peterbed to see his opponent Kato was only 25 years old and played weekly tennis and early on this showed...Clarks first service game was a shambles as he served 4 consecutive double faults to lose to love and Kato raced to a 4-1 lead. However there were some good rallies developing, won equally by both players and in the 7th game Clark broke Katos serve and then won his game to love as his wicked spin serves started to go in. At 4-4 the body language of the players changed.(..though Clark was a ball of sweat and panting between points and Kato was inscrutabally cool on the exterior) i could sense that Clark knew he had the measure of his man and he raced through the final 2 games to win 6-4 and leave his apponent a beaten man (mentally if not physically) A great result and a reminder to Andy Murray that the UK does know how to play tennis...and now back to the studio"

Elementary My Dear Watson.......
I hope you are enjoying the blog as much as i am writing it...well over 130 hits .
If you remember from the flight from the Uk there was no in-flight entertainment so i began reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes collection on my kindle (only 70p!) and despite reading it every day here i am still less than half way through it. So in honour of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle i give you yesterday (fri) in his style starring Nik as Dr Watson, Me as Sherlock Holmes................
I awoke in bed at 221b Baker St (the resort) as Watson stirred beside me (for myself and the good Doctor were at times intimate)
"I say Watson, i do believe that it is precipitating outside at present"
" Gracious Holmes how do you know that for i confess the curtains are still drawn"
"Elementary my boy, for the rain is making a hell of a racket on the roof!"
I strode to the balcony and looked outside
"Fear not Watson for it will soon be sunny, for the wind is in the east and looking in that direction with my spyglass i can see a plethera of Sailors trousers"
Watson was much pleased with this assertion and presently we did get up and dressed for the day ahead.
"I say Watson" say i "I deduce that you did have a spicy local meal last evensong"
"By jove Holmes how did you deduce that for i confess what you say is true!"
"Three points my good fellow.......number one is the double flush of the lavatory which i heard...number two is your ungainly gait on leaving the bathroom...and number three the untimeley death of my pet canary Moriarty who resided in a cage by the toilet door and who seems to have died an agonising end!"
"Brilliant Holmes for it is true i have an arse like the Japanese flag!"
There then followed a period of relaxation by the sea, but i am a man of action and i was getting restless, whereas Watson was generally a seditantary fellow....
"I say Watson" say i " How do you feel about taking afloat on the ocean in a double kayak?"
Watson was much troubled by this but eventually acceded to my remonstration...
So Watson took the bow and myself the stern berth and a local beach helper of the Thai persuasion launched us forth with a mighty thrust.....As this occured i , by smart mathematical reasoning, came to the conclusion that the 75 degree angle of us entering the sea, coupled with the oncoming waves at a perpendicular angle to the shore would cause us the utmost suffering....as so it transpired that first Watson, then i did go head first into the briney!! This caused much merriment amongst the gathering throng, save for Watson, who was sorely pissed off!!!
As day turned to evening myself and the good Doctor set forth for a walk to the local village, a mere few furlongs along the road.
There were many places to partake of food, drink, massage and i dare say other sins of the flesh, yet on the whole it was a pleasing place to visit.
We decided to go to an establishment named "Charlie Chaplins Massage Parlour" though i confess i have never heard of the fellow. Watson informed me he had yet to be born by the time of my death in 1897!
Two very pleasing Thai ladies did give us a relaxing foot massage at the cost of 7 florins each which was a bargain methinks!
We then entered a local taverna called The Orchid where i had a curry and chillies and Watson, being a more conventional fellow, had a pizza.
To complete our adventure. on return to Baker Street by hansom cab we partook of a cinematic delight...a moving picture show on the beach under the stars. We watched "Death At A Funeral" which Watson enjoyed immensley, but i found it a trifling affair, and as i deduced after a mere 10 minutes, the butler did it!!!
I am forever your loyal servant
Mr Sherlock Holmes

Thai dancing...whats that all about eh?
Thursday...dreampt in the night it was raining but woke to sun...bummer! Cant say we did a lot during the day...the sea was a bit lumpy but good fun.
In the evening we went to a Thai buffet with traditional Thai dancing ....they move in slow motion and articulate their hands a bit like Spock in Star Trek i guess and act out old stuff to bongo drums and things. I asked our waiter if he listened to that stuff at home but he preferred Clapton and Coldplay and i cant say i blame him!
The food was of course spicy (im waiting for my morning coffee to arrive with a fucking red chilli in it) but very delicious...the highlight for me was my egg yokes poached in syrup ( no better than it sounds) and for Nik was chicken larb gai (spicy minced chicken cold salad ) but she said the tofu red curry made the need for lip collagen implants redundant!!

Scrabble but not as we know it...
Last night we decided to have an evening on our balcony and use room service...Nik had club sandwich, me a salmon burger! We cracked open the tesco wine and played scrabble with the sound of the sea in the background...Nik was very lucky and got a double triple worder worth 81 points so game over but i will have my revenge!
Spent all day Tuesday laying by sea, having occasional dip in warm water and drinking....covered in f30 sun cream but still decidedly red at end of day despite being in shade almost all the time. Having a shower stung a bit i can tell you. Then had another Thai meal and bed fairly early as the excess of the day had taken it out on us both!
Woke today (wed) and realised we were too red to go in the sun today...about 38 degrees and humid...and as the wine here is taxed at 400% by the government the cheapest bottle here is £40 so we set off for Tesco Lotus by taxi and the fruits of our labour are in the picture below....a bigger load of crap food it is hard to imagine buying but not helped by the fact we were a bit drunk when we shopped as stopped at local bar where beer 35p a bottle. Then stopped at a sort of fast food area where had extremely hot curry for £1.
Back at resort now, the wine is in the fridge and all is well with the world...Nik has her wine and is happy as a pig in muck!

Tuesday morning and woke to the picture below...not bad at all.
Had a fraught day of transfers yesterday from Bangkok but eventually arrived at resort at 5pm. Had a couple of drinks last night and Thai meal very nice. Now it is 9am, breakfast beckons and it looks like it is going to be a scorcher.....

Sunday...a lazy breakfast then down to hotel pool....a very hot and sunny day. In no particular order we were either sunbathing, sleeping, reading , swimming or drinking or a combination of some of them (tho i didnt manage the swimming and reading and sleeping one!)
Then in the evening had a lovely cruise on the river Chao Phraya which runs past the hotel in a 65 year old converted teak rice boat....the food was fab thai..5 courses but we avioded the hot chilli sauce.
Back at hotel about to watch the footie now then on to Koh Samui resort tomorrow...

Saturday Night...just another normal evening at Calypso Cabaret....beautiful women singing and dancing on stage...hang on a minute...they're blokes? Nah no way...not in those costumes...you could see their bits...what?..they dont have any now?....blimey!!! You could get into serious trouble here..not to mention the emotional scars that would haunt you for the rest of your life.
A funny, surreal and bizzare night out...Nik couls not stop laughing!!
A funny, surreal and bizzare night out...Nik couls not stop laughing!!
Woke today (sat) at 4am still jet lagged..breakfast at 7am..unheard of on holiday. fantastic food had smoked salmon, a fry up and danish pastries..just to keep me going.
Got on sky train, a sort of inverted London underground , and had crowded journey to a place called Jutujak where there is a massive weekend market..supposed to be the biggest in Asia. It was also very hot and we got very lost!
You can buy anything you want there..clothes, ornaments , jewels, animals..probably even a wife!!
There was a big area selling animals, mainly minature dogs for handbags but also mini rabbits and even chipmunks. There were also stalls selling clothing for the pets...a chipmunk in a 2 piece suit and a hat is very strange and sad. Nikki said she had never seen dogs dressed up in such sparkly clothes but then again she never went to The Med Bar on a Saturday night eh Mark?
Then it was back to hotel, Nik went for another massage, i had a kip by pool and then we had afternoon tea with beautiful cakes, scones and mini sanwiches.
Off to see lady-boy show tonight....

It is now 10.30pm on 13th. we woke at 4pm, showered and had a couple of drinks on the terrace bar overlooking the river..very nice.
After that we spoke to hotel who recommended a good Thai restaurant so we went for a walk to find it, past lots of shops, maily selling jewels and clothing ( 12 hours MTM suit, shirt and tie £50 or MTM handbags...keep Nik away from that one)
Found Harmonique Thai restaurant (22 Chaoenkrung 34) and had fantastic 3 course meal and drinks for BT960 which is £20. Thai chicken curry superb but green sauce with starter blew our heads off!!
On way back to hotel stopped and had Thai massage each (BT300 each £7) Nik had foot massage for an hour and i had back and neck ...my girl massaged me with her elbow, put her knees in me and generally pummelled me for an hour but i feel great now!!
Off to bed now..busy day tomorrow..

What a journey that was....
Plane at Heathrow on time...nice window seat for me, Nik sitting next to sleepy old bloke so thats ok. Lots of leg room ..all seems perfect until...fuck me there is no in flight entertainment built into the back of the seats..this is an 11 hour journey for christsake!! Am informed that films will be shown on big projector screen about 10 rows ahead of us..i mean when was this plane built? The Thai people have great taste in films too.. never heard of any of them , one about a dolphin, one about a robot and one about baseball...needless to say i didnt watch them , nor did Nik. Fortunatley had my kindle and had just down loaded the complete Sherlock Holmes stories for 70p the day before...read them for 8 hours ,ate for an hour and slept for a couple then we arrive!!
Bad news is that immigration takes 2 hours so am writing this from hotel room where it is 230am Uk time and 930am Thai time. Nik in bed asleep..tonight we taking ferry to China Town to get some local food etc. Hotel Shangri-La fantastic with great view of city....off now for 40 winks (thats winks i said) as jet lag getting hold.

Welcome to my holiday blog...whatever that is!! I will endeavour to keep posts regular but if i get distracted by drinks by the pool, golf, fishing, lady boys or Thai brides then i apologise now!
Nikki and i are in the Servisair lounge which is very nice...free drink (anything from tea to whisky tho its a bit early for that) bacon rolls, magazines etc...we fly in 2 hours...11 hours in the air to Bangkok. They are 7 hours ahead of us so here comes jet lag!
